The Jewish Week meets with the author, television talk show host,
lawyer, real estate executive and “back door” Middle East diplomat
on the Monday after a weekend of horrific terrorism in Israel. A
self-described “cautionary optimist,” he says that “the U.S. got
100 percent confirmation that Arafat is not a viable partner for
peace at this point.” Conversation is interrupted several times,
when he gets calls from CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about being interviewed
that evening, and when his producer and a newsman from ABC check
in with him about breaking news.
